The Property
This private residence is set in the heart of the South Hams, enjoying far‑reaching views across the surrounding countryside. The site is home to a working farm, alongside a number of ancillary buildings that support holiday accommodation, renewable energy generation, and remote working for both commercial and educational charity projects.
With multiple uses and buildings spread across the property, reliable connectivity was essential to support day‑to‑day operations, guests, and modern infrastructure.
Before IT WORKHOUSE
Connectivity at the property was extremely limited. Two unreliable broadband lines regularly failed, often leaving the site without any internet access for days at a time. With speeds of around 5Mbps and very thick stone walls across the buildings, the connection was effectively unusable beyond a short distance from the router.
None of the farm or ancillary buildings were connected to the network, meaning there was no way to implement smart controls, monitor systems remotely, or manage and update essential equipment.

What we did
IT WORKHOUSE carried out a comprehensive site survey to fully understand the layout, construction, and individual requirements of each building. From this, we designed a bespoke network solution capable of supporting the full site.
Multiple network tests were undertaken to ensure reliable coverage throughout, and it was determined that a leased line would provide the most stable and effective solution for the property. The final design was carefully planned to deliver consistent performance while respecting the character and constraints of the historic buildings.
Significant improvements
The introduction of a leased line has been truly transformative. The entire property now benefits from dedicated, super‑fast fibre optic broadband, allowing residents, staff, and guests to move between buildings without interruption.
Our bespoke installation was tailored specifically to the challenges of very old stone buildings, ensuring the solution was discreet, tidy, and highly effective. The site is now fully connected, enabling modern working practices, improved guest experiences, and reliable monitoring and management of on‑site systems.
